トーテムとは、家族や血縁などの集団にとっての聖なる象徴です。トーテムの多くは、動植物などのかたちをしています。自分の先祖が自然界の存在とつながりをもち、 自分もそれらと深いつながりを持っているという考え方が背景にあります。 本シリーズは、トーテム(象徴)として意味づけられる絶滅危惧種の動物を博物館的に陳列(ヴンダーカンマー)した平面作品です。描く為の分類の方法は、主題の動物に因んだ祭りや儀式などで利用される仮面からゆるキャラに至るまで、さまざまな姿に象徴化された姿をあえて恣意的に並べることで、人間と動物(自然界)とのつながりを再考することをねらいとしています。 A totem is a sacred symbol for a group, such as a family or lineage.
